Job Activities

What you will do:

Capable of independently performing inspection activities for welding, stationary and rotating equipment, civil activities, structural fabrication, piping installation and painting and coatings. The Inspector must be competent in conducting visual and dimensional inspection for piping, structural steel and equipment installation. Inspector must be competent in reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, codes and standards. Inspector must be capable of performing and/or evaluating Non-destructive Examination Testing, Welding Procedures, Welder Qualifications, Quality Plans and project specific requirements. The Inspector must be capable of reporting on all activities. The Inspector must be capable of troubleshooting or problem solving on behalf of project management. The Inspector will be responsible for exercising independent judgment in assessing customer needs and project requirements. The Inspector must be able to work without direct supervision. The Inspector will have the authority to handle atypical or unusual situations. The Inspector may be involved in long- and short-term planning. The Inspector may be responsible for investigating and resolving matters of significance on behalf of project management.

Required Skills

Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record

Must have valid TWIC – Basic Plus Safety – Site Specific – PPE – Drug testing and Background required

Works with the Project Manager, Technical Field Advisor and project team in the planning, development, and performance of project schedules.

Listen to and takes appropriate action on client’s expressed concerns and observations.

Provide open and honest communications to client representatives regarding the quality of the work.

Develop an understanding of project scope and quality requirements as they pertain to your specific area of responsibility.

Study and understand the Project Quality Plan and other quality documents that pertain to assigned scope of work.

Rotating equipment inspectors perform some or all of the following duties:

Check and inspect rotating equipment and/or components to ensure they meet project requirements

Provide rotating equipment shutdown QA/QC (quality assurance/quality control) service and technical support

Ensure accurate standards, procedures and specifications are in place for the maintenance of the rotating equipment assets

Check mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies for proper alignment and functioning

Test electrical assemblies and wiring for proper connections on equipment

Perform minor adjustments and repairs

Maintain accurate rotating equipment records, including protocols and equipment history

Review key rotating equipment maintenance strategies

Identify detailed quality requirements required by the contract specifications and applicable codes and standards.

Determine required frequency of inspections and tests

Coordinate with operations to schedule quality inspections and tests to maintain production goals

Perform inspections and tests at the required frequency in the assigned area.

Ensures that required inspections and tests are performed by others as required

Prepare inspection/test reports and maintain the quality files related to area of responsibility

Verify inspection and test compliance with the applicable contract documents, codes and standards

Correctly interpret and utilized codes and industry standards to determine compliance of the work

Maintain effective communications (both orally and written) with supervisor, coworkers and the project management team

Communicate test results to the project team with accurate and complete documentation

Understand typical codes and standards as they apply to the assigned work

Organize quality documents and store per the company and project document management procedures

Identify and report nonconforming work in accordance with the company quality standards and the project quality plan

Verify nonconforming work is properly corrected

Perform source and receiving inspection of permanent materials and plant equipment for project requirements as required

Develop strong working relationship with supervisor, coworkers and the project management team

Be involved in and provide quality input to task planning meetings.

Qualifications

    Must be a self-starter, be organized and have good interpersonal skills.

    Associate’s degree in engineering technology or science plus two years of experience in a related construction field (at least one of these years in a QA/QC position); or a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) plus four years of experience in a related construction field (at least two of these years in a QA/QC position).

    Working knowledge of the specific trade of discipline you are assigned to with associated special processes, inspection, and testing techniques.

    Working knowledge of construction industry codes relating to your area of expertise (i.e. ASSHTO, ACI, AWS, ASME, NEC, etc.).

    Certifications from NCCER, AWS, ACI, ICBO, ASNT, NACE, API etc. are a plus

Physical Demands

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with the use of proper lifting techniques and procedures.
  • Stand, walk, climb, perform overhead work with fall protection, use hands to feel, handle or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms, sit, talk and hear.
  • Work 12 hour daily shifts in difficult exposed outdoor environment for extended periods of time.
  • Perform duties while using SCBA breathing apparatus in potentially hazardous environments.
  • At least 20/40 arrested binocular vision, as well as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to kneel, balance, push, pull, drive, stoop, climb, and crouch.
  • Must be able to work as a team member under pressure.
  • Perform duties while using respiratory protection such as:
  • SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) in potentially hazardous environments
  • APR (air purifying respirator) outfitted with cartridge filters used while painting
  • Particle masks used while buffing and/or grinding
  • Successfully comply to and complete the OSHA required Respiratory Questionnaire process with a Licensed Health Care Provider
  • Must pass a Respiratory Protection Fit Test with a Licensed Health Care Provider
  • Must be able to conform to customer-required physical and medical standards.
  • Psychological capacity to cope in a high-pressure work environment and interact effectively with team members.
  • Must be able to successfully pass Pre-Employment Screenings and Health Physical.
